Matthew Lewis - Trombone
Matthew has become one of the country's most sought after freelance tromboninsts, regularly working for some of the most prestegious orchestras in the United Kingdom.
A busy 2014 has seen Matt perform with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra and for the first time in his career, he was invited to play with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, City of Birmigham Symphony Orchestra and Aurora Orchestra. The highlight of this season was performing Fidelio, Die Fledermaus and The Magic Flute as part of a trial for the pricipal trombone job at the English National Opera.
Matthew is keen to promote the trombone as a solo instrument, one way he has done so is by discovering and performing works that were originally written for other instruments. Recently performing the Saint-Saens Bassoon sonata and the Telemann Sonata in E minor for Viola de Gamba in a recital in New York.
As an educator Matthew continues to run workshops across the country promoting the awarness of brass instruments in primary schools. He is also professor of trombone at Chigwell School.
Chamber music plays a huge part in Matthew's life and he is proud to be a member of Inner City Brass, a fearless group of London's top young professionals, striving to push the boundries of brass chamber music.
In his spare time Matthew enjoys many sports including running, football and golf and is an avid Tottenham Hotspur fan. If there was something he couldn't live without, it would definitely be Indian food.
