Alex Hamilton - French Horn

Born in Manchester, Alex began playing the horn at the age of 9 and was taught by Lizzie Davis. Shortly after, Alex joined Chetham's School of Music where he gained the Dip.ABRSM and LRSM diplomas. During his time at Chetham's, Alex was a brass finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year, principal horn of the National Youth Wind Ensemble and a member of the National Youth Orchestra.

 

Alex went on to study under Michael Thompson, Richard Watkins, Martin Owen and Katy Woolley at the Royal Academy of Music. During his studies, he performed as guest principal horn with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. He also regularly works with ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, John Wilson Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, London Winds and as a deputy on the West End shows; The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera.

 

Since graduating in the summer of 2015, Alex is delighted to have been appointed as the Co-Principal Horn of Opera North and looks forward to performing Wagner's Ring cycle in 2016!
